In this complete home renovation, Sprinkman Design partnered with Melissa Turke Homes to reimagine a classic Craftsman-style residence with both heritage and hospitality in mind. Our client – an ardent supporter of UW-Madison Athletics – wanted a space that reflected the warmth of traditional, authentic design while elevating its form and function for hosting friends, family and athletes at their beloved Badger game-day gatherings.
A Sprinkman Design favorite, this project beautifully illustrates how the distinctive principles of the Craftsman style can be preserved and celebrated in a modern context — especially when enhanced for lifestyle, comfort, and personality.
For our Craftsman Corner, we leaned into a rustic but modern design with natural materials, handcrafted touches, and an earthy palette. A transformation of the ‘roll-up-your-sleeves’ variety; we did everything from removing and restructuring lath and plaster walls, to rebuilding steep staircases to code, to restoring rich wood flooring to its former glory.
We’re thrilled to report that the result is stunning! This showstopper now honors its Craftsman roots while embracing modern functionality, everyday luxury and our client’s deep pride for the Red + White. From foundational repairs to stunning finish details, every element was carefully considered to create a space that’s timeless, welcoming and uniquely personal.

ROOM DETAILS
The Kitchen
The kitchen became a showpiece of this ‘Craftsman-meets-contemporary’ sensibility. Our Artichoke-colored cabinetry choice – complemented by wood uppers and hammered bronze hardware – adds character and nods to the traditional palette typical of Craftsman-style homes. A soft beige backsplash and clean quartz counters provides balance, while endcap storage was built with traditional joinery and proportions, ensuring the space feels cohesive and enduring.
The Attic Loft
In the attic loft, space planning was key. This area, redesigned for the client’s children, emphasized function without sacrificing charm. The layout includes sleeping quarters, a playful but polished bath, and a tucked-away office — all tied together with clean lines and materials that honor traditions while welcoming youthful energy.
The Owner’s Suite Bathroom
The bathrooms are where we had the most fun expressing personality through materials! A stained-glass-inspired tile feature in the owner’s suite pays homage to the client’s love of artisan details — a hallmark of Craftsman style. In the main bath, a twist on classic green subway tile, installed vertically, offers a subtle modern take. Even the basement bathroom didn’t escape the narrative: a Badger Red tile accent wall and textured bronze fixture cleverly reference both university pride and meticulous artisanship.
