Designed for a technology professional and his collaborative, design-savvy extended family who visits frequently from Florida, this project was all about blending old and new with modern and personal.
From a full-scale renovation of the kitchen and bathrooms to a complete furnishing of the home, every decision was made with intention. With a deep focus on balance, we created a space that is masculine yet refined and modern yet deeply authentic: a sophisticated retreat defined by clean lines, strong forms, and an understated sense of luxury.
Room Details
Primary Bathroom: Bold Sophistication
The primary bathroom stands as the most dramatic transformation within the home. Fully gutted and re-envisioned, this space now embraces a darker, more grounded palette. Black tones dominate the lower half of the room, establishing visual weight and a distinctly masculine edge.
Rather than feeling heavy, the design is thoughtfully interrupted through variation in shape and finish. In the shower, split tilework introduces contrast and rhythm, while linear elements reinforce the architectural clarity of the space.
Brushed gold plumbing fixtures, hardware, and lighting add a refined layer of warmth, as well as an intentional counterbalance that elevates the entire room. The result is bold with every detail working in harmony.
Primary Bedroom: Texture and Intention
In the primary bedroom, the design shifts toward a more intimate expression of the overall aesthetic. Texture takes center stage, from custom blackout drapery topped with a butterfly pleat to a stonewashed cotton waffle weave duvet layered with a leather accent pillow.
The bed itself is a standout piece: a low-profile, deep chevron walnut finish and integrated nightstands that enhance both form and function. Suspended above, folded metal pendants in a nightshade black finish provide ambient lighting through concealed sources, adding a subtle sense of intrigue. A thoughtfully placed black wood desk with built-in outlets creates a dedicated workspace, paired with a leather chair that ties back to the home’s broader material palette.
Guest Bathroom: Lightness with Continuity
While the guest bathroom echoes elements of the primary suite, the entire guest suite offers a decidedly lighter, airy aesthetic to suit visiting family who will spend significant time in the space. The palette shifts toward brighter tones, with white tilework and soft matte grey cabinetry.
Gentle curves subtly soften the geometry, providing contrast to the sharper lines seen elsewhere in the home. Black-framed mirrors and gold accents maintain continuity, ensuring the space feels connected while still having its own identity. It’s modern, welcoming, and effortlessly polished.
Living Room: Comfort and Sculptural Design
In the living room, the focus turned to furnishings that balance comfort with strong visual presence. Designed with our client’s height in mind, the oversized sectional anchors the space: inviting, generous, and upholstered in a durable chenille-linen performance blend that doesn’t compromise on softness. At its center, a substantial cylinder-shaped polished bluestone coffee table introduces a grounded, sculptural element. This interplay of scale and material sets the tone for the room.
Charcoal black leather lounge chairs with brass steel frames add another layer of seating. Their curved forms contrast beautifully with the linear structure of the sofa. Beneath it all, a handmade wool rug provides warmth and texture. Lastly, the media console doubles as functional art, with a distressed ombré finish that evokes subtle movement, proving that even practical pieces can contribute to the overall design story.
Kitchen: Clean Lines, Elevated Function
The kitchen embraces a streamlined, modern aesthetic defined by clarity and precision. Black-stained cabinetry establishes a bold foundation, complemented by thin-profile countertops – also serving as a beautiful backsplash for the back counter – that enhance the sense of lightness and proportion.
Gold hardware and plumbing fixtures introduce a touch of understated luxury, catching the light without overwhelming the space. Above the island, slender curved pendants provide focused illumination while reinforcing the home’s sculptural lighting.
Seating is seamlessly integrated with slim steel-framed stools in a distressed brown finish, bringing a sense of warmth to the space. Creating an easy transition between kitchen and dining areas, the muted brown leather compliments the console in the living room and softens the black and white aesthetic. It’s a space designed not only for function, but for effortless everyday living.
Dining Room: A Sculptural Centerpiece
Positioned at the heart of the condo, the dining room serves as both a functional gathering space and a visual anchor. A rectangular black oak dining table with dramatically angled legs introduces a sense of movement and architectural interest. Surrounding it, streamlined chairs in a creamy taupe performance fabric soften the composition while maintaining a clean, tailored look.
Above, a striking chandelier commands attention. Nine smoked glass globes, suspended at varying heights from a brushed gold plate, create a dynamic focal point reminiscent of hand-blown glass artistry, and bring a dramatic, refined effect to the space. The adjacent fireplace was also reimagined with a new fireplace insert and curated rocks to match the home’s aesthetic, and framed by floor-to-ceiling porcelain tiles in rich, black matte tones. This vertical element adds depth and reflects the home’s emphasis on bold colors and textures.
