Southwest Lodge

There isn’t much that makes us more pleased than clients who stick around to continue designing their home with us room after room. We are relationship people – and the better we know you, the more personal our designs can become! Such is the case with this award-winning basement project. After a full first floor renovation, one of our favorite clients returned to transform their lower level from a builder-grade blank slate to a lodge-inspired entertainment stunner. Carrying a strong vision from their travels to and connection with the Southwest, this small space became packed with interest and meaning at every turn.

Bar

At the front of the space is a U-shaped, wood bar top paired with coffee brown, leathered granite. The antique glass backsplash adds depth and pays homage to the old western back bars. It is surrounded by dark matte, rustic hickory cabinets and Wisconsin quarried stone. Guests are invited to pull up a custom-made cow-hide bar stool to watch the Badger games on the TV above the reclaimed wood beam mantle.

Banquette

As is often the case, space planning was an important step in this project. The challenge here was packing in multiple spaces to gather in a relatively small space. The custom banquette became a fulcrum, connecting the bar and the living room. By intentionally raising up the seating, those in this space can see the TV over guests seated on the couch. It’s a great spot to play cards or enjoy another round of drinks under the diffuse light from the hand-sewn natural linen and aged iron pendant.

Living Room

We pulled the cabinetry, stone, and wood accents seen by the bar to the opposite into the living room. The custom furniture includes a rich leather sofa, plaid swivel chair inspired by classic menswear, and tribal-patterned ottomans. The centerpiece is a locally-made live-edge coffee table atop a faux-hide layered rug.
