Obsidian Edit

Our team loves the downtown Madison condos, and this one was no exception. Created for a local client while coordinating with his design-loving family members in Florida, we helped to update his home and their home away-from-home. To blend the old with the new, our designer preserved the original structure and flooring of the condo while refreshing nearly every other finish. With all-new furnishings throughout, the result is a home that feels both modern and personal.

Living Room

The living room was all about the furnishings. The star of the space is the uber-comfortable, oversized sectional for our taller client. Positioned around a heavy, cylinder-shaped polished bluestone coffee table, the sofa’s chenille, linen blend not only has a soft hand but is also a performance fabric. Perfect accent pillows pull everything together from the space. Two stylishly-scooped lounge chairs in charcoal black leather and a brass steel frame provide another seating option atop the wool, handmade rug. Serving as much as a piece of art as a TV stand, the console has a distressed ombre finish that creates a feeling of movement.

Dining Room

The dining room is in the center of the condo, where we placed a rectangular black oak dining table with dramatically angled legs and surrounded it by streamlined dining chairs in a high-performance creamy taupe fabric. Above the table sits an unforgettable sculptural chandelier. From a brushed gold iron fixture, nine smoked glass globes mimic hand-blown glass hang at different lengths and provide an incredible feature in the room. The fireplace was also updated to be framed by floor to ceiling 24×48 porcelain tiles rich in shade and iridescence.

Kitchen

Simple, modern, and clean, the kitchen’s upgrades consisted of new black-stained cabinetry, thinly profiled countertops, sexy gold hardware, and functional plumbing fixtures. Slender, contemporary curved pendants provide downlight on the countertop, while slim-lined steel-framed distressed brown stools create seating between the kitchen and dining room.

Primary Bedroom

The primary bedroom features some beautiful textures from the custom blackout drapery through the stonewashed cotton waffle weave duvet cover and leather accent pillow. The bed is unique, with a low profile, a deep chevron walnut finish, and functional attached nightstands. On either side of the bed are contemporary folded metal pendants in bronze that hang from the ceiling with a hidden light source. Finally, we situated a black wood desk with built-in outlets into the perfect corner with a leather desk chair.

Primary Bathroom

The primary bathroom received an overhaul through a full gut and is our favorite transformation on this project. The heavier black color dominates the lower half of the room for visual weight, with breaks are created by shape and finish variations. Contrast and linework are seen through the split tile in the shower, and the brushed gold plumbing finishes, accessories, hardware, and light fixtures are the cherry on top to bring everything together.

Guest Bathroom

The guest bathroom was also fully recreated. While there are nods to the design of the primary bath through the gold accents, white tilework, and black-framed mirror, things are lighter and brighter here. Gentle curves and matte grey cabinetry soften the feel of the space while still remaining modern through clean lines and finishes.
