What’s the difference between an Interior Decorator and Interior Designer?
An Interior Decorator focuses on making your home beautiful mainly through aesthetic updates like decor, furniture, and paint. While Interior Designers also execute those pieces, they also have an understanding of how to use design psychology and human behavior to create plans based on how individuals will use a space. This can involve recommending structural changes like removing walls or adjusting plumbing and electrical and working directly with your builder/contractor to execute those plans. Interior Designers hold advanced degrees, and may also be referred to as “Interior Architects”.
How can hiring a designer add value to my home?
While many renovations have a monetary return on investment, design also adds value to your everyday life. By understanding your goals, an interior designer can accurately view all facets of the project and advise you as to where to allocate your money.
How does hiring a designer help me?
A typical project requires space planning, a large number of selections to be made, coordination of timelines and tradespeople, procurement and tracking of products, and installations. Designers are there to make sure everything goes smoothly with each step. Through their close relationship with you and the knowledge they possess, they help you to make confident decisions during each step of the process to lessen any pressure or stress. While we are aware of our impartiality, we fully believe designers are an invaluable resource.
